“The whole road around where I live in Dublin has been admiring the lovely professional job Fintan Fawsitt and his team have done on the historic Tilia tree in our front garden. Older than the house, which is mid 19th century, this large-leaved flowering lime had grown so tall its head seemed to touch the sky. During the first serious autumn storm this year, a vicious gust of wind brought down one of its largest boughs, which covered the entire public footpath. A fortnight later, a second big bough broke off, sailed up in the air and blew sideways, to land in the neighbouring garden, also filling it completely. In neither case was damage done to people or property but something had to be done.

When Fintan came to assess the job, I realised from the sensitive way he talked about the tree that my ancient Tilia was in safe, skilled and respectful hands. It was not going to end up looking like a scalded hedgehog when new growth started, as many of the butchered and beheaded trees around here already do from bad pruning jobs. Instead, it once again has poise and elegance and a fine balance. Removing a thorny rambling rose called ‘Belvedere’, which had climbed 25ft or more into the tree’s canopy and swayed alarmingly in high winds, was not a problem to them. He also gave a graceful new shape to our old London plane tree, whose branches were sweeping down too low over the public footpath.

Fintan Fawsitt’s expertise was awesome. When he was working to reduce the height of the tree, he moved fearlessly among top boughs so that it seemed he was skywalking, every bit as lithe and graceful as a warrior in Ang Lee’s marvellous film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Only this was in real time and much more nerve-racking to watch. Back on firm ground, he had us stand back and take a good look, as the painter does a canvas and the sculptor a block of stone. The garden is now filled with light instead of foreboding.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Fintan Fawsitt and his team of eco warriors. They are all gentlemen and completely reliable. Skilled workers all, I was impressed by how super-careful they were of other garden plants, the opposite of big booted builders who simply do not see plants, no matter how many times you point them out. Finally, they left us a neat pile of fresh logs, ready for storing and drying. Thank you very much for doing such a great job.”

It’s great to see the light of day again thanks to Fintan and his band of merry men.

They worked well as a team with great enthusiasm , operated in a very safe manner and were chain-saw lightning.

Fintan and his team were brought in to inspect the threat of Armillaria mellea [honey-fungus],to remove  a 40 ft. dying cypress, to  prune diseased and damaged apple trees , to remove an overgrown 30 ft. sycamore and to top and prune very overgrown Leylandii.

They carried out all this work in a very professional, safe way.

The cuttings were shredded and the large tree trunks were cut up into logs and stored and stacked in a dry area.

It was all well worth getting done.

The garden was left spic and span.
